Dr. Durgham Darwazeh is a hospitality sustainability expert, educator, and entrepreneur with over 12 years of international experience driving environmental responsibility and organizational excellence across Canada, Saudi Arabia, and Jordan. He holds a PhD in Sustainability Management from the University of Waterloo, where his research introduced a behavior-driven model for advancing environmental performance in the hospitality sector — shifting sustainability from a reporting task to a culture of daily action.
Durgham’s career in hospitality began in 2000 with his first role as a public area cleaner in a fast-food restaurant — an experience that shaped his belief that excellence starts with mindset. That early lesson evolved into a lifelong purpose: to empower organizations to consistently challenge expectations, transform routines into opportunities, and inspire people to be better than the best.
Throughout his professional journey, he has worked in hotel operations, quality assurance, and education — including roles in luxury hotel brands such as Grand Hyatt and Mövenpick, and academic leadership positions developing hospitality and sustainability curriculum for higher education institutions. His work continues to advance ESG integration, employee engagement, and net-zero strategies within the tourism sector.
Durgham is also the founder of Sustainable Globe, a Canadian-based initiative dedicated to providing accessible and advanced ESG solutions for hotels and small businesses. Through technology, behavioral insights, and global collaboration, he aims to break down barriers for sustainability adoption and help organizations contribute meaningfully to climate action, community well-being, and global prosperity.
He believes sustainability is not a label — it is a mindset, a responsibility, and a shared journey. And with the right knowledge and tools, every organization can play a transformative role in shaping a more sustainable future.
Our vision is built on years of academic research led by our founder, Dr. Durgham Darwazeh, who explored how real change in hospitality starts with people — their motivations, their abilities, and their workplace environment. Using the Fogg Behavioral Model, his research demonstrated that hotels must not only set environmental standards but must actively support employees with the right training, feedback, and daily triggers to act sustainably.
This approach transforms auditing.
Instead of asking: Did we achieve the target?
We ask: Are we enabling sustainable behavior every day?
Sustainable Globe focuses on evaluating sustainability practices, not just environmental outcomes — revealing how organizations can build a culture of climate responsibility from the inside out. Results improve when behavior improves — and behavior improves when people feel empowered.
This is how we will reshape ESG for the hospitality sector:
By making progress practical.
By measuring what truly drives change.
By ensuring sustainability is lived — not just reported.
